Resumen: Mesoamerican cultures are generally regarded as advanced societies that, among ther contibutions to humanity, are known to have domesticated cultivated plants as Zea mays. Maize is oni of the staple foods of the Mexican population and the practice of nistamilization of maize seds before Spanish conquest in 1521, is fundmamental int he preparation of dough for tortillas. We have shown that applications of low concentrations of salicylic acid (SA) in plant seedling shoots or in evergreen trees significantly increase growth, devepment, and priductivity. in order to assess the effect of spraying, low conetrations (SA) in maize seedling in development conduct experiments in growth rooms that have shown that 1 micromola of SA significnatly increased root length by 30.6% and 0.1 micromola of SA 24.7% compared to control. This coentration also significantly increased the total fresh biomass of seedlings. In other experiments the results have shown that (SA) significantly increase the length, weight and dry weight of roots, atems, leaves and yield of this species, as well nitrogen (N), phosphorus and postassium (K) levels in the different organs of plants at harvest time. Copper, zinc, manganese, iron, boron, calcium and magnesium were also increased in most tissues by the effect of SA. It is proposed that the positive effect of SA of increasing root sizr promotes the absortion and accumulation of macro and micronutrients and contributes to seed production.
